Conscious
For us, nature is a form of becoming aware of our surroundings and this conscious way of living is on the very base of our brands ethos. Using natural products, being conscious about transportation, cooperating with local artisans. With one muse serving as the inspiration behind every collection and every partnership: Mother Nature and her Life cycle. Organic, genuine and conscious.
A Female Silhouette is at the root of our identity. Where at many brands the female body is not part of the design process, it is at the starting point at ours. Our creative director has made it one of her lifelong commitments to study, accentuate and embrace the female body through looking at the curves and overseen parts of the female body. A woman's body is non-symmetrical in itself and we are naturally embracing this by allowing it to express itself. A signature diagonal silhouette has become the result, the start of all creations. Also with this specific cut, we’re able to follow different body shapes of the same size within one size.
The freedom of movement within garments and the freedom of life go hand in hand with each design. This allows us to ensure that people can follow their own ideals, follow their own authentic lives, which is possible by moving freely, literally and figuratively. “I think that has to do with the fact that I was a professional gymnast. At one point, I had to stop practicing because of an injury and that made me very limited in my freedom of movement. In addition, I had become so used to wearing that tight leotard that I want to favour the comfortability that I had in those leotards in everything. Lastly, I think that need for freedom of movement also stems from being a woman, and wanting to be able to move and exist freely. I still feel a lot of limitations in this area and I think a lot of other women do too.” - Max Zara Sterck
Ofcourse, being more sustainable with fashion goes further than the label you buy from. That is why we take many steps toward becoming more conscious and more slow in our life cycle. The values of our brand are a way of explaining our approach to the outside world. By producing locally, we are proud to be offering modern silhouettes that all complement each other, perfect for a capsule dressing and your forever wardrobe using materials that can stand the test of time. Besides that we work with a seasonless and timeless designs that can be worn between a mother and her daughter. A collection that carries through over time and in life for future generations to wear and pass on. From our design table to your very own closet, everything is done by the best craftsmen, locally. Max Zara herself works very intuitively, crafting directly on the body with fabrics. Creative pattern cutting techniques and sketches, they’re all done in our atelier in the Netherlands. All of the garments are made domestically or for larger productions in Italy, thanks to a very personal contact with our people and partnerships. We are focused on creating long-lasting high-quality pieces that are responsibly sourced and ethically produced.
We design meaningful classics that stand the test of time. Our products are timeless, and when taken care of properly, they last for years. The material you wear affects the skin and the person carrying the garment. This is why we consciously choose materials that are well developed and come from inside of Europe. Using deadstock and recycled fabrics for our stretched garments, otherwise working with natural fabrics like silks and wools. Also working with 100% fabrics, garments are more easily degradable in the future for many generations yet to come. We also develop our own fabrics in collaboration with innovative textile labs and manufacturers. To discover our initiatives, you can visit the collaborations on the Consciouss Page
In a world of fashion where competition and contrivances can prevail, each and every single one of us chooses the opportunity to cherish and love one another. Fondness for the people you work with creates a tight-knit, almost family-like environment. Quite intimate, highly personal, with genuine connections on the true base. We are high believers of ensuring that people are well taken care of and that it has a big impact on our garments too. The same way we treat our people, we treat our garments. Materials and fabrics are carefully considered and each garment is as important as the people behind creating it.
